Costume & Makeup of KATHAKALI

KATHAKALI is a major form of classical Indian Dance. It is a story play but one distinguished by the elaborately colourful make - up and costumes. KATHAKALI has the most elaborate costuming consisting of head dresses, face masks and vividly painted faces. Costumes have made Kathakali's popularity extend beyond adults. There are seven basic make up types are used in KATHAKALI , namely Paccha ( green ), Pazhuppu (ripe), kathi, kari, Thaadi, Minukku & Teppu (red). These vary with the styles and the predominant colours made from rice paste and vegetable colours that are applied on the face. The jaw bone is exaggerated by pasting along it cut outs either of paper ti give the face enlarged dimensions. The symbolism of the make-up is highlighted by many types of headgears. Not only will their body language improve, but they will also learn to read others better. This is a valuable life skill. Five types of Western Dances

1. HIP- HOP DANCE   This is done to Hip - Hop music. This dance has moves which are close to the ground. Balancing your body on your hands and head is an essential part of this dance. 2. BREAK DANCE  This dance form was made famous by the king of Dance "  Michael Jackson " . It consists of many acrobatic and gymnastic movements.  3. SALSA This dance is originated in Cuba & Puerto Rico ( Caribbean Island ). Salsa dancing involves the shifting of body weight using the feet and at the same time the upper part of the body remains straight. It is performed on Latin - American music. 4. BALLET  This dance is originated in the 15th century in Italy.  Ballet is performed on classical music. It involves dancing on your tip - toes, known as Pointe work.  5. TAP DANCING  In this dance, dancer's move on a hard surface to make different sounds. "A tapping sound " is created by the metal plates on the dancer's shoe in the ball and heel position. I hope...

5 Western Dance Styles

SHANTA RASA

 Shanta Rasa  ( emotion of emotionlessness) is considered as a ninth rasa in Sanskrit literature. It's Sthayi Bhava is Sama, i.e. state of freedom from everything. It's foundation is patience. Shanta Rasa is expressed by keeping the face in a peaceful expression by half closing eyes. The purpose of recreating this Rasa is to depict detachment from everything.  Shanta represents complete harmony between the mind , body and the universe. VEER RASA / RAUDRA RASA - Anger

Veera is heroism.It represents fearlessness  , self - assurance  , determination and valor. Strength and Guts  are the trademarks of a Veer or a fearless person. Boldness in battle, the Gallantry with which they die are all aspects of heroism.  To fight disgust, ine needs valor. To become a hero doesn't need shining weapons. Heroism  should be in body and soul. RAUDRA RASA - ANGER The Raudra Rasa is a destructive Rasa, while it has its use in communication. Anger  expresses itself from a mild irritation upto real fury. The repetition of angry thoughts can work like a mantra that over time comes to dominate one's entire being. RAUDRA Rasa is one of the important nine rasas in NATYASHASTRA   that is dominant in the emotion of anger.
