" Folk "

Folk in our practice today indicates community and expression that are spontaneous. What is Folk Art ? How is it different from classical dance?

Classical dance is that which belongs to a certain class. The class that patronized the traditional dance and music of this nation was always the Folk.
There are two broad streams of dance form in India.One is the classical dances of India and the other is more joyous Folk dances of India.It has Rhythm or Taal springs spontaneously from their steps , expressions or Bhava which is the essence of dance flows from the communicative eyes and provides Rasa that is ecstasy and Ananda that is Joy but there is little difference between verbal and non-verbal communication system and technique.
Every region has particular form of folk dance like Rouf, Neyopa, Bhangra, Pangi and many other form of dances . The songs of these dances are sung in the traditional tune of the region of the region and the costumes , make - up are all differ which indicates the particular regional culture. Few Folk dances performed by the people at the time of harvest and festivals like Pangi of Himachal Pradesh , Loor  of Haryana .

Pangi is one of the popular folk dance of Himachal Pradesh.In this dance the women execute small and gracefully steps while standing in a circle.
The traditional folk music of the hills is provided by the drums called Dhol , Trumpet called Nagaras and regional folk songs.
Naati is another popular traditional folk dance.It is performed on separate occasions. There are different kinds of Naatis are Dhili , Birshi , Pheti and Bashari , Sarna that is read instrument and Nagaras are used for making this dance more graceful.

Now we are talking about another folk dance of Haryana that is Loor which is a festive dance which is performed by women at the time of Holi. Women in this dance teasing each other in a lighter vein. The instruments are Dhol that is drum and trumpet.
Phagun and Dhamiyal are another popular folk dance of Haryana. In Dhamiyal men uses daph that is flat drum.

Double hand gestures Hastas or Hasta Mufras are an integral part of Bharatanatyam where stories are braught to life through intricate hand gestures combined with beautiful facial expressions and dynamic movements. There are 52 Hasta Mudras which are divided into 28 single hand gestures or Asamyukta Hastas and 24 double hand gestures or Samyukta Hastas . BHAYANAKA & BIBHATSA RASA

Bhayanak  is the sanskrit name of one's  BHARATA'S  sons. Bhayanaka refers to the terrible sentiment  or in a very simple language it means  Psychological state of mind. Bhayanaka refers  to a specific glance (drishti). It expresses the terrible sentiment. There are total thirty six glances defined.The glance in which the eyelids are drawn up and fixed and the eyeballs are gleaming and turning up is called  Bhayanaka Rasa. BIBHATSA RASA Bibhatsa Rasa has the dominant state of disgust such as hearing of unpleasant  , offensive , harmful things  or seeing and discussing them. The color associated with the Bibhatsa is Blue  and the deity of the Bibhatsa  Rasa   or Sentiment  is MAHAKALA   (Shiva).
