Different shades of folk form
Haryana - Loor is a festive dance which is performed by women at the time of Holi. Women in this dance teasing each other in a lighter vein. The instruments are Dhol i.e. drum and trumpet.
Phagun and Dhamiyal are another popular folk dance of Haryana. In Dhamiyal men uses daph i.e. flat drum.
Now it is the time to tell about the rich heritage of folk dances Kumaon & Garhwal.The important folk dance of this region is called Chapeli. It is the dance of couples where women dance, while holding a mirror in one hand and a colourful big handkerchief in the other. This dance is also known as the Champhala Kedar.
Bharat Nati or the Thali dance is also performed by the women folk of the region. This is a graceful dance where women take small sliding steps and turn. Through out the dance the dancers keep a metal balanced on their heads.
The state where the plains is the home of the classical dance of kathak is Uttar Pradesh. Folk dances of this state though regional are still very popular all over India. The region of Mathura , Vrindavan & the Brajbhoomi is the synonymous with Rasalila dances. This dance describe the life and love of lord Krishna and Radha . The costume is the brighter coloured traditional Ghagra or long skirt and choli or Blouse for women and dhoti and other accessories for men. Rasa is normally performed during the time of Holi festival. Another important folk dance form of the region is the Nautanki. It is basically a dance drama based on the epics.
