TRADITIONALLY SATTRIYA

 An artistic  way of presenting  mythological  teachings to  the  people in  an accessible, immediate  and enjoyable  manner.  TRADITIONALLY  SATTRIYA was performed  only by bhokots (MALE MONKS). Today in addition to this practice  SATTRIYA  is also performed  on stage by men  and  women  who are not the  members  of  SATTRAS on themes  are merely  not mythological. 
SATTRIYA  NRITYA is one of  the  eight principal  classical  indian dance traditions  in ASSAM.
The great saint SRIMANTA SANKARDEV,in 15th century  created  SATTRIYA NRITYAin Assam. As the tradition developed  and grew within the Sattras, the  dance  form came to be known as SATTRIYA. One of the  major dances in SATTRIYA  is the  Krishna Nritya which portrays  the  activities of young  krishna.
The costume of this dance form is primarily of two types. The male costume comprising  the  dhoti and chadar and paguri (turban) and  the  female costume  comprising  the Ghuri,Chadar and  Kanchi (Waist cloth )
The instruments  used in SATTRIYA  are:
KHOL,VIOLIN,TANPURA,PUMP ORGAN and CONCH.
SATTRIYA  is one of  the  famous Indian  classical  form the north eastern parts of the  Indian  sub-continent.
