MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS


Here in this picture these are the  instruments which we used in classical  dance forms. 
1. Bharatanatyam 
     The instruments used includes the mridangam (dou ble sided drum ), nadaswaram ( long type of oboe made from  a black wood ),nattuvangam ( cymbals  ), the flute , violin and veena.

2. KATHAK
    Bansuri , Esraj , Pump Organ , Santoor, Sarangi, Sarod, Sitar.

3. ODISSI
     Tabla, Bansuri, Tanpura, Manjira.

4. KUCHIPUDI 
    Mridangam,  cymbals, Veena,  Flute and the Tambura.

5. MANIPURI 
     Pung ( a barrel drum), small kartals, Sembong, Harmonium,  a  stringed instruments called the Pena and  wind instrument such as flute.

6. MOHINIATTAM 
    Mridangam or Madhalam ( barrel-drum), i idakka ( hour glass drum ), flute, Veena and Kuzhitalam ( cymbals).

7. KATHAKALI 
    The  three major instruments  are Maddalam ( Barrel-shaped ), Centa (cylindrical-drum )played with curved sticks Idakka ( drum with muted and melodious notes played when female  characters  perform).

8. SATTRIYA 
    Khols or the drums, the taals or the Cymbals and the flute. Non- traditional music instruments  like Mridangam and Pakhawaj were a part of the music of Rojaghoria Chali Dance. In present time violin is commonly used  in  the  musi  of SATTRIYA  Dance.
