Dances from Central States (Part 2)

In my earlier blog Dances from Central States (Part I)  i have written the popular tribal dances from Bihar , Jharkhand and Odisha . Today in this blog i will give you the informations about the popular tribal dances from Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh states. Their most popular dance is Karma , where women link arms , sway rhythmically and form rectangles. The men form a circular ring and dance with vigorous movements.  The drumbeats keep on gathering momentum as the dance progresses and the tempo builds up. Next the Bholaji stilt dance is another important tribal dance of the Gonds.  This unique dance is performed by the youths who sing and take small steps on the stilts. The tribal people of Bastar perform Nava Rani and Chait Danda dance in August and October at the time of festivals. During the rains, they perform the Godo dance to appease the rain gods. Dances from Central States (Part 1)

The states of Bihar , Jharkhand  , Odisha , Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh  also have tribal dances. The Santhal tribe inhabits the Chhotanagpur plateau.  They have a diverse range of tribal dances performed at the time of harvest and festivals.  Ho is another important tribe of th region. The HO  people are devotional by nature and Maghe is a ritualistic dance form. In Bihar and Jharkhand, the Oraon  tribr people perform dances according to the seasons like in spring,  they do the  Jader dance. In this dance, the role of the drummer is very important .He produces a sound suggestive of the roar of the ocean, and the feet of the dancers move as undulating waves of the sea. There are other more important dances are - Paika , Sarhul , karma and Matha. Now , we will  move to the next tribal dance which is from Odisha -The Muria tribes.
